L- Learning
What will we be doing in PE?
Monday=Moving Monday (a different workout DVD or activity in which maximum movement is encouraged)
Tuesday=Teamwork Tuesday (a different game/activity in which teamwork is the focus)
Wednesday= Weight Room Wednesday (weight room for part or all of the class period)
Thursday= Three Minute Thursday (fitness stations that last for 3 minutes each)
Friday= Fun/Free Friday (dodgeball, kickball, free play, outside, etc.)
Fees
$5- this will cover the cost of equipment upkeep and the rental of a lock/locker. If a lock is lost, it will cost an additional $5 to replace.
Grading Scale
Daily Average=80%
Fitness Tests= 20%
Daily Average
You will earn up to 10 points every day in the gym. Daily points can be lost for the following reasons…
No Gym Shirt=loss of 2 points
No Gym Shorts=loss of 2 points
No Gym Shoes=loss of 2 points
Late From Locker Room=loss of 2 points
Lack of Participation=teachers discretion
Testing
The fitness tests that will be done include the standing long jump, push up, and pacer tests. These will be done twice (once per grading period). The grading scales are on my website.
Gym Clothes
You may bring your own clothes from home, but they must be school appropriate. No foul language, drug/alcohol/tobacco pictures or companies, holes, rips, or tears. It is required that you have your gym shirt, gym shorts, and gym shoes every day. If you are missing all or part of your gym clothes, the following consequence will be issued…
1st Offense: Loss of Points and Verbal Warning
2nd Offense: Loss of Points and Warning Letter sent home (if not returned the next day, a loss of recess will occur)
3rd Offense: Loss of Points and Loss of Recess
4th Offense: Loss of Points and After School Detention
5th Offense: Loss of Points and Office Referral
Additional Information
Computers may be brought to the gym, but are not allowed in the locker room for safety/security reasons. It is recommended that they remain in your school locker, but if necessary, may be brought to the gym and placed in the hallway.
Body sprays (Axe, Tag, etc.…) are NOT to be used. They create issues for those with asthma and are often used in excess. Underarm deodorant is more than acceptable and HIGHLY recommended.
You may wear sweats over your gym clothes when we are outdoors if the weather is cooler, but you must show me your gym clothes first.
Students with asthma need a note from the doctor in the nurse’s office as well as a copy for me. To carry your inhaler, you must have a specific form from the nurse.
You MUST have a note from a parent, legal guardian, or doctor to be excused from PE unless visibly injured (cast, crutches, etc). After 3 consecutive PE days missed, you will need a doctor’s statement or else it will count as a lack of participation.
